Hosting the Canadian Mixed Curling Championship continues a recent tradition of offering elite curling entertainment in the Morris Curling Club. This includes the Scotties Tournament of Hearts won by Jennifer Jones; the 2009 Manitoba Curling Tour Championships won by Mike McEwen & Chelsea Carey; the 1st DEKALB SuperSpiels won by Crystal Webster & Vic Peters; and this year’s 2nd annual DEKALB SuperSpiels won by Sherry Middaugh and Mike McEwen.
The Canadian Mixed Championship, November 13-20, 2010, will bring together the Mixed champion teams of all ten provinces, Yukon/Territories, and Northern Ontario. Manitoba will be represented by four-time champion Terry McNamee and his Hamiota team of Lana Hunter, Allan Lawn, and Tanya Enns.

Co-chairs of the event organizing committee are Resby Coutts and Brenda Recksiedler. The Executive Committee includes Del Stevenson, Penny Roney, Barb Stevenson, Curt Recksiedler, Keith Rempel, and Brian Recksiedler.
It is anticipated about 125 volunteers will be involved in staging the event. For information about volunteering or other aspects of the championship, send an email to Resby Coutts – resby@morriscurlingclub.org.
Volunteers are still required to fill out the support corps as we stage the next successful curling championship event in Morris. Our projected need is in the range of 125 volunteers, somewhat less than the number needed to stage the Scotties a few years ago.
A particular need, at this time, is to identify statisticians. Along with the usual need for timers and observers to assist the appointed on-ice umpires, we will require a skilled group of statisticians to score the game, shot-by-shot. As a Canadian championship event, the competitors rely on the stats provided by the host committee in their game-to-game preparations.
To volunteer for this opportunity or for more general participation in the November 201 Canadian Mixed in Morris, please contact Barb Stevenson or send an email to volunteers@morriscurlingclub.org
Curl Manitoba has designated the Morris Curling Club’s Canadian Mixed Curling Championship as its’ official 2010 Manitoba Homecoming event.
Curl Manitoba was pleased to support the bid by the Morris Curling Club to host the Canadian Mixed Curling Championship, November 13-20, 2010 and will be working with the Morris host committee through the coming season as they prepare for the next Canadian championship to be played in this province.
The Canadian Mixed in Morris will be co-chaired by Resby Coutts and Brenda Recksiedler.
“The Morris Curling Club is excited by the opportunity to add a Canadian Championship to the growing list of successful events it has hosted,” says Coutts. “We are especially excited to have our event recognized as Curl Manitoba's Manitoba Homecoming 2010 event.”
“We are very excited to be hosting the Mixed Championships in 2010 and are confident that Morris will put on another great curling event that is synonymous with Manitoba and curling.” stated Shane Ray Executive Director of Curl Manitoba. “ We believe that kicking off the 2010-2011 curling season with a National Championship will be a prelude to great things for Manitoba and curling and what a better way to top it than to designate it as our Homecoming event.”
An integral part of the marketing of the championship will be an invitation to Manitoba-born curlers to compete for their new territory/provincial entry in Morris and for Manitoba-born fans to ‘come home’ to support their new territory/provincial team.

The final teams were identified in early April as the competitors in the Canadian Mixed Championship to be hosted by the Morris Curling Club, November 13-20, 2010. Manitoba`s four-time champion Terry McNamee and his Hamiota team of Lana Hunter, Allan Lawn, and Tanya Enns should be among the championship contenders given that McNamee has medalled twice in three previous Mixed appearances.
Notable among the provincial representatives is Robert Campbell of Prince Edward Island – winner of the 1989 Canadian Mixed Championship, the last time the event was hosted in Manitoba. Campbell defeated the Manitoba Jeff Stoughton team of Karen Fallis, Rob Meakin and Lynn Fallis-Kurz in the Canadian final game in the Keystone Centre in Brandon. The Stoughton team had won the 1988 Canadian Mixed and repeated as Manitoba champions but were unable to repeat as Canadian Champions.
Two time Canadian Champion Paul Flemming and his Nova Scotia team and Charlie Sullivan and his New Brunswick team will also be among the favourites
